August?

So The Dude just read in the New York Times that bp isn't going to be able to repair the Deepwater Horizon leak until August. August. The worst oil disaster in U.S. history as of this writing is going to continue for two more months. Conservative government estimates released on May 27th is that the event has already released in approximately one month (April 20 - May 27) twice the 250,000 barrels of oil that the Exxon Valdez did in 1989. So assuming that the oil release rate wasn't appreciably reduced by the "top kill" effort (and as of this writing, there hasn't been any public acknowledgment of that), we're looking at a disaster conservatively estimated to be six times worse than Exxon Valdez, and impacting much more densely populated areas.

How soon is it that this crap about tort reform gets thrown out the window, and we start executing companies now that they have corporate personhood? There must be consequences for screw ups of this scale, and a slap on the wrist would be an insult to the people of the United States.

In a corporate republic (government of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations) your opinion has no weight. If enough other corporations vote that BP should be executed, well then MAYBE it could happen, but since that would start a precedence, I doubt it.

Go back to work, be grateful for the job you have and enjoy what they give you.
